Getting around in Dubai is just like moving in your own respective city. While most of the visitors enter Dubai from Dubai International airport, there are ample options to travel within the city including cars and taxis, for an uninterrupted shopping experience. In Dubai cars serve as the main mode for getting around. Driving in the city is considered as an extreme sport. But since Dubai currently has a huge traffic congestion problem, it is better not to add to the problem and use public transport. Buses and public taxis serve as public transport or hire luxury car rental services. The Dubai Municipality operates the public bus service from 06:00-23:00. Within every 15-20 minutes, buses run between Dubai International Airport and Deira bus station. While Local buses run from the Deira bus station, near the Gold Souq, and the Bur Dubai station on Al-Ghubaiba Road. Numbers and routes are posted on the buses in English as well as in Arabic. The bus fares depend on the destination. However, the most popular way to rove in the city is the metered Dubai Transport taxis. With a fleet of taxi available you will not find it really hard to look for one. You can also call Dubai transport for a taxi. Only the beige-colored Dubai Transport taxis are allowed to pick up passengers at the airport. The older parts of Dubai, with their souqs, spectacular architecture and museums, are best seen on foot. Also, water taxi Abra crisscross Dubai Creek from early morning until around midnight, and is a great way to see the waterfront. Abras leave constantly from early morning until about midnight. There are two routes. The one closer to the mouth of the Creek runs between Bur Dubai Abra Dock and Deira Old Souq Abra Dock, while the other is between Dubai Old Souq Abra Dock and Sabkha Abra Dock. For disabled people, all the major shopping centers have wheelchair access and a number of car parks for disabled drivers. Dubai Transport Company has taxis that can accommodate wheelchairs. The airport has several facilities for disabled travelers, including low check-in counters. |
